چکیده

In the trot, the body’s center of mass behaves differently. Rather than being raised in the first half of the stance phase, it is lowered and the body moves as a wave, often with minimal oscillation in those breeds of dogs that are used to trotting for long periods of time [6]. Here potential energy is converted into elastic energy and stored upon impact with the ground by passive stretching of tendons and muscles, to be released later on in the stance phase. This is the spring-mass model described by Blickhan [3]. The study undertaken by Gregersen and colleagues not only confirms this spring-mass model, it also reveals that the work performed by every joint of the foreand hind-limbs is more efficient due to a reduced “cost” of physical activity resulting from the release of elastic energy [7]. Indeed, in the trot three quarters of the work performed by dogs is recoverable [7].

Non-invasive assessment of equine muscular function: A case study.

Assessment of muscle function after an injury or during recovery is of great importance in the veterinary field. Accelerometry, bioimpedance analysis and mechanomyography/acoustic myography have been used to assess human muscular problems, but have not been applied to the veterinary clinic. We report the clinical use of these techniques in a 12-year-old Danish Warmblood horse presenting with re...

Acoustic myography: a noninvasive monitor of motor unit fatigue.

Acoustic myography is the recording of sounds produced by contracting muscle. These sounds become louder with increasing force of contraction. We have compared muscle sounds with surface EMG to monitor the dissociation of electrical from mechanical events (presumably, the loss of excitation-contraction coupling) which occur with motor unit fatigue. Acoustic signals were amplified using a standa...

Non-invasive evaluation of muscle disease in the canine model of Duchenne muscular dystrophy by electrical impedance myography

Dystrophin-deficient dogs are by far the best available large animal models for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), the most common lethal childhood muscle degenerative disease. The use of the canine DMD model in basic disease mechanism research and translational studies will be greatly enhanced with the development of reliable outcome measures. Electrical impedance myography (EIM) is a non-inva...

Optimizing Cost Function in Imperialist Competitive Algorithm for Path Coverage Problem in Software Testing

Search-based optimization methods have been used for software engineering activities such as software testing. In the field of software testing, search-based test data generation refers to application of meta-heuristic optimization methods to generate test data that cover the code space of a program. Automatic test data generation that can cover all the paths of software is known as a major cha...

Portable acoustic myography – a realistic noninvasive method for assessment of muscle activity and coordination in human subjects in most home and sports settings

Muscle sound gives a local picture of muscles involved in a particular movement and is independent of electrical signals between nerve and muscle. Sound recording (acoustic myography) is a well-known noninvasive technique that has suffered from not being easily applicable, as well as not being able to register at sufficient sampling speed. With modern amplifiers and digital sound recording this...
